Concord, New Hampshire – Nothing will be the same again after this woman finds out that she is a millennial. Alicia Thronthon, 32 has discovered this morning that she is, indeed, part of that generation.
“I was reading the news as I do every morning when a line caught my attention”, Alicia says. “It explained that millennials are people who are born between 1981 to 1997. I was born in 1985. Does that means that I am a millennial?”.
Choking back the tears, Alicia explains that she feels anxious about the repercussion of such a discovery.
“I am so ashamed and sad”, she says. “Should I feel offended too? I guess I should. Does it mean that I am self-centred, entitled and whiny? I really had no idea I was one. Now I think about it, maybe there were signs that I should have seen. I mean, I do like to spend a lot of time on Facebook at work, but who doesn’t? Also, I do believe that there is no such thing as being too politically correct. But that’s just because I am so nice, I don’t want anyone getting their feelings hurt”.
Alicia, who now knows what it feels when a woman finds out that she is not what she thought she was, will take some weeks to heal.
“I have spent so much time mocking those lazy brats…”, she says. “It hurts to realise that I was one of them all along. Obviously, I will need some time to recover. To think about myself and where I want to go from here. I will be alright in the end, I am sure”.
